Question
"This question relates to your upcoming show on wireless connections. Please tell me, or tell me where to find, what I need to install a wireless network in my home. I will shortly be getting DSL for Internet access. I have one desktop [computer] that is about three years old. (Does it have what is needed?) I will soon be getting a laptop. (What does it need?) Do I understand that with a network I can use my laptop anywhere in the house to go on the Internet and to print on the printer connected to the desktop [computer]? Are my expectations realistic? What will I need to spend? In other words, I need wireless network 101. Unfortunately I live in Pennsylvania and cannot watch your show live. (I will be asking my sister to tape it for me, and look forward to accessing the transcript when it is available.) Thanks for your help."

Thanks for your e-mail. The wireless episode is scheduled to air the week of May 2nd. Once it airs, the Real and Quicktime [video] files [of the episode] will be available on the Web site. You do need a broadband connection to view those files so I am happy to hear you will be getting a DSL connection. As you mentioned the transcript will be available as well at that time. I think many of your questions will be addressed during the program. Our guests are scheduled to discuss computer system requirements [and] types of wireless connections as well and placement of the hub in your home, plus they plan to touch on the topic of securing your wireless connection. If you still have questions after it airs, please feel free to e-mail them through our Web site and we would be happy to address them. |
