    Question

The system I am using is windows ME and I know it is notorious for being unstable, however, many things are wrong. I dont know what to do. First of all, often times I am unable to start my computer up right and it freezes and then I have to reboot it a few times, second this new error message pops up right away when I start my computer that says, "explorer has caused an error in HCDCI.DLL and will now close...and when I close it the computer does some weird freeze. Also my homepage always somehow changes automatically even when I fix it to normal. I have spybot, adaware, and symantec, and run them often. Is there any help or advice you can give me to please help me out. Thanks for your support.

    Answer

A "Tech Talk" staff member responded:

Thank you for your email. It really sounds to me like you have some virus-type activity going on. You say you've used Symantec, my first thought is I'm wondering if you've got the latest virus definitions. Also, with many of these new worms, a system scan with Symantec will not work unless your computer is booted into safe mode first.

We have recently created a Safe Computing webpage that has very good info on keeping your computer free from attacks.

Good luck to you, I know dealing with viruses can be very frustrating. Thanks again for your email, and thanks for watching Tech Talk.
