    Question

"I have an analog camcorder and a Dell Movie Studio Plus connector to plug into my Dell computer. Is it necessary to put the video on [my] hard drive or can one go directly from the camcorder onto a DVD? I am not too adept at [using my] computer but am learning. Also is it a problem to get sound from the camcorder to the DVD?

I enjoyed your [show] on May 23rd--just happened to turn to it.

I am using a S-Video cable to connect the camcorder to the flat square Dell Movie Studio Plus item which also has 3 other plug-ins. I have another cable going from camcorder (Sony) sound to the flat item. I know you deal with mostly digital [video] but any help would be great. Thanks."

Thanks for your e-mail. Unfortunately your Movie Studio Plus card is not capable of burning a DVD while capturing the footage. It is a tedious process. You must capture the footage first and then burn it using DVD burning software that came with your DVD burner. I am also not familiar with any card that is available for a computer that allows you to do this.

If you are doing a lot of transfer work, you may want to consider looking into a DVD-R standalone console unit. These units typically allow for you to plug in an analog source (S-Video) and burn to a DVD simultaneously. You may find consoles like this at electronics stores such as CompUSA and Best Buy.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the program.
