    Question

"When using my Mac Cube late at night, at midnight a dialog box appears in upper left with a note saying something like "rebuilding hard disc" and a note that says so many remaining minutes that changes from a few minutes to 20 or so several times. There is a timing bar that progresses until it is finished and the dialog disappears with complete. Does this occur even when the computer is in energy saving (dark screen), and also when the computer is turned off, but still plugged into the 110 volt power. Is this built into all computers so they don't have to be on the internet when this process takes place."

Thanks for your e-mail. The wireless episode is scheduled to air the week of May 2nd. Once it airs, the Real and Quicktime [video] files [of the episode] will be available on the Web site. You do need a broadband connection to view those files so I am happy to hear you will be getting a DSL connection. As you mentioned the transcript will be available as well at that time. I think many of your questions will be addressed during the program. Our guests are scheduled to discuss computer system requirements [and] types of wireless connections as well and placement of the hub in your home, plus they plan to touch on the topic of securing your wireless connection. If you still have questions after it airs, please feel free to e-mail them through our Web site and we would be happy to address them.
