Question
Mr. Saint Croix:
My MP3 player has a flash memory built into it, but yet I cannot move the songs around into a different order when connected to my computer and using the company-provided "music manager" software. I called the company and they confirmed that it is not possible to do this. So do you know if there is some other way to move the songs into a different order?
Answer Alex Saint Croix responded:
Thank you for your question.
MP3 players, though they use flash memory, all have their own miniature operating systems that stand between the user and the file system. I'm afraid that the company that designed the interface might not be able to help you solve this particular problem.
This is different than, say, if you owned a USB Flash drive. On those, you can rename and alphabetize files however you like, as you would anywhere else on your computer. Two tricks you might try are to rename the music files to include their track numbers in the names, or see if you can create playlists that are ordered in the manner you like.
I hope this helps.
