    Question

"I have an infected file that cannot be cleaned. Can you help me?"

    --Ann Clark, Marshall, WI

    Answer

A "Tech Talk" staff member responded:

Thank you for your e-mail to "Tech Talk." Your question makes me think you have antivirus software installed on your computer. If your software has placed the infected file in quarantine, your computer is completely protected (for more information, see our virus show the week of May 9.) If your software is detecting a virus but is unable to put it in quarantine (or clean it completely), you should contact your antivirus software company for more information. They should have a Web site that lists contact information.

We recommend that all users have antivirus software installed, update their virus definitions on at least a weekly basis (daily is better), and have the software configured to scan as files are downloaded, opened, and installed.
