Question
We have adware/spyware that is detected by the Lavasoft adaware
program. It cannot be deleted or quarantined by this application
because it is located in the restore/temp file area. Any
suggestions as to how to proceed to delete these spyware files.
Thank you.

Answer
A "Tech Talk" staff member responded:
The spyware that Ad-Aware found on your machine is in an area that
you will have to remove by hand.
Don't panic! This is easier than it sounds.
- Click on the Start button and select Control Panel.
- Click on the Performance and Maintenance category.
- Click on System from the menu or pick a control panel icon section at the bottom of the window.
- Click on the System Restore tab.
- Place a check in the box next to "Turn off System Restore on all drives"
- Click the Apply button.
Note: The time it takes to get the next step could take 30 seconds to
30 minutes.
- When the status of all the drives reads "turned off", the spyware has been removed.
- Uncheck the Turn off System Restore on all drives check box and click OK.
- Perform your Ad-Aware scan again to verify that those items are,
indeed, gone.
Enjoyed your unmonitored, and hopefully faster running computer. Thanks again for watching the show.
Sincerely,

Follow-up question
I was wondering if when you do this will it delete all files as well?

Follow-up answer
Clicking OK or Apply after disabling System Restore will result in your entire System Restore cache being deleted. You will not see any adverse effect from doing this. The only limitation that you will have, is that you will not be able to restore your system to a point previous to the time that you temporarily disabled System Restore. Keep in mind that your System Restore cache was already tainted with spy/adware, so you really wouldn't want to use System Restore prior to that point anyway.
Thanks for watching Tech Talk.
