Apple®’s iMovie® Tutorial can help you get started editing your videos in iMovie. The tutorial includes tips, how-to movies, and step-by-step instructions.

Apple’s QuickTime® Pro is a great cross-platform tool for converting audio and video to different digital formats. It can also be used to create slideshows and video podcasts. To use QuickTime Pro, download the QuickTime Player and purchase a key to unlock the pro features.

If you need a few more extras when editing video on a PC, try Vegas® Movie Studio, which includes transitions, titles, and special effects to add a little pizzazz to your home movies.

Tech Terms

FireWire®
A connection used for transferring data to and from a computer. FireWire is faster than other types of connections (e.g., USB) so it is commonly used when transferring large amounts of data. A special cord and connector on the computer is required.

Composite
A type of cable used to connect a VCR to a television or other output device.

Timeline
Displays audio and video in a linear sequence over time.

Playhead
Points to a place in the timeline and is used to move back and forth within the timeline.
