The last time you went to visit your doctor, did you notice anything different in the exam room? Not just a change in the wallpaper, but the computer sitting in the room with you. On this episode, we discuss why computers are now in exam rooms and how technology is impacting health care.
Jon Hallberg is an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He is also the co-founder and medical director of the new Center for Medical Humanities and the Arts.
Jon graduated from Saint Olaf College in 1988 and the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1992. He completed a family medicine residency at the University in 1995 and was in private practice in downtown Minneapolis for five years. In early 2001 he joined the faculty of the medical school where he continues to practice, teach, mentor, and provide administration for a variety of projects.
Since late 2003, Jon has served as the weekly medical analyst on the regional “All Things Considered” on Minnesota Public Radio, appearing over 100 times. In addition, he’s been a guest on Midday with Gary Eichten and The Current with Mary Lucia.
In May 2006, Dr. Hallberg became a Bush Medical Fellow, an award from the Bush Foundation in St. Paul. His fellowship focus is on health communication. Jon has since studied at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University and at Dartmouth College and traveled to Louisiana.
Ross Janssen is the HIPAA Privacy and Security Officer for the University of Minnesota. Janssen assumed this position in May, 2002, with responsibility for directing th University’s efforts to comply with the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Janssen has been with the University of Minnesota’s Academic Health Center for the past 10 years and has worked in the Departments of Medicine, Neurology, and Dermatology and as the Assistant to the Academic Health Center Chief of Staff. Janssen received his B.A. degree at the University of Minnesota and his J.D. from Hamline University. Janssen is a Certified Information Privacy Profissional (CIPP) and member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
John Jensen works in the Privacy & Security Office at the University of Minnesota’s Academic Health Center where he develops and implements compliance initiatives regarding the privacy and security of health information.
John first started working at the University in 1998 in the University’s Pediatric Neurology Clinic. He received his political science degree in 1996 from Macalester College and is a certified information privacy professional.
