Photo Manipulation

According to a report by the Consumer Electronic Association, as of 2005, 57% of U.S. households own a digital camera. Digital photographs are inexpensive to take and share with others, but they don't always turn out perfectly. On this episode of Tech Talk we look at ways to enhance the digital photos we take.

Ellen Thayer is a senior technology specialist in the Office of Information Technology where she has worked as a helpline consultant and software computer trainer since 1985. She took her first Photoshop class in 1995 and has been happily teaching Photoshop courses ever since. She currently teaches Photoshop basics and photo manipulation. She works with the University Technology Training Center to help develop and update a variety of computer courses.

Noise
Specks of color in a digital image that appear where they should not be—e.g., specks of color in a section of the digital photograph that should be solid black.

JPEG
Joint Photographic Experts Group. This group established a standard method for compressing and decompressing digitized photos or images.

Color Cast
An unnatural tint towards a particular color in an image.
